…in 100 words

I found myself filling in an application form which demanded I explain my work in 100 words. The most concise and comprehensive way to explain how I work runs to 1000 words. How do I edit down to a tenth of this and yet this retain the full message of my work? It’s impossible. And yet…
The self is not the face or the body but is an abstraction of the mind.
Self [other] challenges the photograph as a still image whilst considering David Hume’s notion that “man is a bundle or collection of different perceptions which succeed one another with an inconceivable rapidity and are in perpetual flux”. I recreate my own pinhole photographs as large mixed media collages. This recreation of previously unpublished personal images gives a true depth (both physically and psychologically) to each photograph. The choices made embed a true Self within each photograph; including flawed memories and repeated details.
