I’ve been holding off sharing any new work for a while now but I think this piece is progressing sufficiently that I’m happy with where it is going.
I’m hesitant though because the colours are so bold. This is a real challenge for me because I’d rather work in less aggressive colours. When you’re spending hour after hour applying little pieces of colour it can be very intimidating. Once I’m through this red phase of this work I’m sure I’ll feel less anxious about the art.
Beaded Lace will be 16″ x 16″ when complete. This photograph is only showing you about a third of the completed image. Every little piece is individually applied along and I’ve estimated that by the time I’m done there will be around 30000 little pieces of paper or beads making up the whole collage.
It’s a huge risk for me to work on a big work like this. It’s very hard to keep morale going and keeping up the flow with a relatively abstract image. Even then, I’m not sure I’ll like the finished artwork and I’m not sure that it will sell. There is so much that can go wrong over such a lengthy period of time. This section has taken weeks already and I’m only a third of the way through.
I’m determined to see it completed. I’ve never been a quitter in the face of adversity, even self inflicted ones like Beaded Lace.
