Bikes and Trees

Joanna Lumley once told me, over cucumber sandwiches at afternoon tea, “Everyone is equal in a park”. She’s not wrong. The park is a great leveller. It doesn’t matter what race or age you are, the park belongs to everyone.

Being beneath the big trees or playing on the small swings gives hope and happiness. The park is a place to be at one with yourself and to take the space and time away from its normal pace. It is a welcoming place; encouraging reflection and harmony, fun and forgiveness.

I am lucky that there are so many parks like this near my home. Here I can pick and choose my space, lean my bike against the tree and let this summer afternoon just slip away.
